(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "I don't want to be known as a selfish guy, or a guy who can just score," John Rumpza said.
Rumpza has gone to great lengths to improve his game, and it's showing up on the stat sheet.
"He gets double and triple-teamed almost every night, and he's been doing a good job of throwing out of those to guys that are open," Blooming Prairie head coach John Bruns said.
The forward isn't just the Awesome Blossoms leading scorer, he also tops the team in assists.
"It's something that we had to incorporate into our game plan this year, as there have been more double and triple-teams on me, so it's helped us," Rumpza said.
Rumpza is only a junior, but two weeks ago, he set the school's all-time scoring record.
"He had a little bit of an idea, but didn't know the number exactly, just knew he was getting close," Bruns said.
"To be able to share that with all my teammates, and be able to share it with a guy I watched growing up in Matt Zelmer, it was a pretty special night," Rumpza said.
Despite the accolades, Rumpza told me he isn't satisfied.
"I feel like there's a couple aspects of my game that I could improve on - ball-handling and defense - so I feel like it'll be a while before I reach my potential," Rumpza said.
"Being a true student of the game, he's going to learn a few tricks here and there, and that's just going to make him a better player as he matures," Bruns said.
