(KSTP) - State Sen. Katie Sieben, D-Cottage Grove, will not be Governor Mark Dayton’s running mate.
Sieben made the announcement in a statement Friday. “There is more work to do to ensure that our economic recovery reaches every Minnesotan,” Sieben said of the Senate job. “I will not be a candidate for lieutenant governor.”
Dayton has been searching for a new running mate ever since Lieutenant Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon hinted she was not interested in serving a second term with Dayton. Earlier this month, Prettner Solon announced she is not running again.
Sieben had been widely considered a possible candidate for Lt. Governor. She said she wants to continue her job in the Senate, where she is assistant majority leader.
Other names tossed around for the Lieutenant Governor job include his chief of state, Tina Smith, and Commissioner Tony Sertich of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board.
Dayton is expected to announce his lieutenant governor pick for his re-election bid early next week.
