(ABC 6 News) -- People driving the roads in Rochester today will tell you, they’re hard to navigate.

"It's like on a skating rink," said concerned driver Lois Carrillo.

The roads are not expected to be completely clear within the next couple of days due to freezing temperatures according to MNDOT representative Mike Dougherty.

"It's going to be a while before we get it off. Guys today, they're applying a lot of salt, some brine, which can start to work on it. The sunshine helps that work a little bit, they're scraping a little bit, but a couple of guys just said it's still a bouncy ride out there and they're trying to correct that but it just takes time," said Dougherty.

For Lois Carrillo, who needs to drive across town for physical therapy, that is not good news.

"It definitely concerns me,” said Carrillo. “There's no protection when there's ice, it's going to slide, there's nothing that's going to stop you."

While Carrillo takes the slow and steady approach, Lucas Albright thinks driving normally is what prevents accidents.

"People not paying attention. People driving too slow and they're more of a menace than the ones going too fast," said Albright.

MNDOT advises slow is the way to go.

"If your trips going to take an hour, plan on two hours, especially with the roads right now. You can get there, we're saying they're passable, but it's not highway speeds that you're normally used to," said Dougherty.
