(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Police say an Austin man is lucky to be alive after he was found in the snow in a remote part of Austin early Monday.
Police were in the area of the 1500 block of 11th drive northeast just after two o'clock Monday morning when they heard someone calling for help.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said an officer followed the sound through deep snow, and found the 28 year old man on the ground.
Police say the man was wearing a light-weight jacket, but no hat or gloves.
He had apparently been rolling in the snow, and police say the area smelled of alcohol and the man appeared to be intoxicated.
Officers say one of the man's hands was locked in a fixed position, and he was unable to move his fingers.
Because of his condition officers transported the man to Mayo Clinic Health System Austin in a squad car, rather than waiting for an ambulance.
At the time, the temperature was around 15 degrees below zero.
