(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "Bret has been a rock for us," Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. "He's been really consistent, and it's really been nice to see him play with such a high level of confidence, and for him to do it on a nightly basis has really been special."
"He's a great shooter," Austin guard Zach Wessels said. "Since sixth grade, he makes threes all day, and it's just so fun to see."
Bret Lukes delivered when his team needed it most Friday night.
Lukes scored a team-high 15 points in Austin's win over Red Wing in the section title game at the Civic Center.
"Noah Brehmer and I did a little bit different shooting in pregame, so I was ready to go," Lukes said.
Lukes averages about 15 points a game, but the stat that jumps out the most is his 85 percent free throw shooting.
"In high school, that's amazing," Fadness said. "Last year, he was a role player, a bit player, even though he started, and this year, his game has evolved."
Lukes is one of five Packer seniors, whose careers will come to an end at some point this week.
"It's definitely a different feeling than last year," Lukes said. "This year, I have to give it my all. Who knows when it's going to end? But it's been fun."
