(ABC 6 News) -- A few exceptional students in Austin were recently rewarded for their outstanding work both in and out of the classroom.
On Monday, the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce handed out ten ACCESS scholarships to deserving eighth graders and high school seniors.
Organizers said the students demonstrated outstanding personal and academic achievement.
"This is an example of how many good kids we have in this community,” said Sandy Forstner, the chamber’s executive director. “And really intelligent kids that are going to go on to achieve a lot."
Monday’s event marked the 28th year that the chamber has given out these scholarships, awarding over $250,000 in that time.
Scholarships ranged from $200 to $1,500 and all of the money was donated by local businesses.
This year’s winners are:
8th Grade: Shane DeSilva, Daisy Hernandez, Emily Sayles, Paiton Schwab, Grace Shupe, Tara Watkins
12th Grade: Jiyoon Shin, Clyde Carver, Erin Dankert, Madeline Kraemer
