(ABC 6 News) -- One local educator received a special honor from her peers today.
Wednesday the Albert Lea School District held it's annual teacher of the year ceremony.
This year the award went to Paula Buendorf, a special education teacher at southwest middle school.
Buendorf said her students inspire her every day.
"I love that challenge, and they have taught me a great deal, and it's just a very rewarding thing. their gains are me gains," Buendorf said.
On the state level, candidates for Minnesota Teacher of the Year have been narrowed down to 10, with one from Southeast Minnesota.
Lora Hill is a special education teacher at Winona. A winner will be chosen May 4th.
