(ABC 6 News) – Rochester Police are looking for two suspects who were part of an attempted armed robbery that lead to the assault of a cab driver.

At around 9:00pm Thursday night, two men hailed a cab near the 900 block of North Broadway. The two wanted a ride to the Olympik Village Apartments, but first asked the Yellow Cab driver to pull off into a nearby alley to “pick up a friend.”

Police say that’s when the backseat passenger asked the cab driver for change. When the driver pulled out his wallet, the passenger demanded he handed it over.  When he refused, police say the man held a handgun to the back of his head and kept on with the demands.

The cab driver continued to refuse, so the front seat passenger punched him in the face and the two took off.

The two suspects are described as black men in their upper teens or lower twenties. One was wearing a gray hoodie and a “beanie” hat that had a marijuana leaf on it. Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to contact police.
