(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Every game day starts the same for Mayo softball Captain Kali Aldrich.
"I always have the same meal - a Jimmy Johns sandwich before every game," said Aldrich.
And so far whatever they're putting in her sandwich seems to be working.
The Spartans have outscored their opponents 10-5, and Kali recorded 6 strikeouts in their season opener against Century.
"I really just try and pitch my best. I don't revolve around hits because I have my teammates behind me that'll help me out through it, said Aldrich.
"I got looking back at the stats after the game and it was very exceptional. I was surprised what she did and I shared that with her and she was like, 'I did that? I did this?' I said, yeah you did," said head coach Steve Lewison.
Kali says she worked quite a bit on her different pitches in the offseason and it's already starting to show.
"I really like my curveball. It usually works out quite a bit and my changeup is pretty well," said Aldrich.
"I think her best pitch is a changeup, unlike a lot of kids. If you can hit your spot, her fastball is very effected also," Lewison.
And with this being her last season in the circle in green and gold, Kali has her expectations set high.
"Me personally is to get a better batting average than last year and defensively just continue doing my job on the mound. As a whole, hopefully be Big9 champs and maybe state," said Aldrich.
