(ABC 6 News) - Several people called police Sunday morning from the Hy-Vee South on Crossroads Drive SW after a strange incident in the parking lot.

Witnesses say they saw a man jump into the passenger window of a moving car. Then they heard the woman, who was driving the car, start screaming. The woman apparently stopped the car and some of the witnesses tried to get her out, while the man in the passenger seat was holding her in. Police say he pulled a knife during the ordeal.

Eventually the woman was able to get out of the car. The man slid into the driver seat and drove away.

Police stopped the man, Joseph Martin II, at the intersection of 12th Street SE and Crossroads Drive and arrested him. They say Martin was the woman's boyfriend. She claims he had been abusing and raping her over the past 24 hours. She was trying to escape, so she arranged for them to go to a smoke shop near Hy-Vee so she could try to get away.

Martin is facing a number of charges including... 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, False Imprisonment and Terroristic Threats.
