(ABC 6 News) -- Jury selection began today in the case of a former Mason City man accused of killing a toddler.
The crime Michael Cisneros is accused of committing occurred 20 years ago. It was DNA analysis that led to his trial in 2014.
On July 20th, 1994, 20 month old John Snyder, Junior was reported missing from his home on south Adams avenue in Mason City.
The boy’s father told police he put his son to bed the night before ... and in the morning, he was gone.
The next day, the toddler's body was found in Willow creek.
An autopsy indicated the boy had drowned, and his skull had been crushed.
18 years later ... in 2012 ... a DNA sample taken from Cisneros allegedly matched DNA that was found on John Snyder's pajamas.
Cisneros was required under state law to provide the DNA sample as a convicted felon.
The 38 year old Cisneros has been charged with first degree murder.
Michael Cisneros' trial will be held at the Cerro Gordo county law enforcement complex.
