(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Some local Olmsted Medical Center employees will soon be out of a job. OMC is out-sourcing all of its medical transcriptionist positions.
According to an employee at Olmsted Medical Center, transcriptionists were called into a meeting on Tuesday and told they would be out of work at the end of the month. Those jobs are going to a company called Superior Global, which has offices in Texas and India.
Employes tell us they were offered jobs by Superior Global, but for significantly less pay. None of the employees, nor Olmsted Medical Center officials would go on camera. However, OMC did release a statement saying it has reduced the need for transcriptionists over the last several years.
According to officials at the workforce development center in Rochester, there's actually a government program in place specifically for workers who lose their jobs to outsourcing. It's called the Trade Act, and it provides training, and extended unemployment benefits.
OMC did not comment on whether it is offering any kind of severance to the affected employees, but say they are welcome to apply to other open positions.
