Hundreds of Shooters in Pine Island's State Shooting Competition

For the second time, the Pine Island White Pines Sportsman's Club hosted the Minnesota State Sections. It's put on by the United States Practical Shooting Association. Roughly 130 people signed up from all over the Midwest.

(ABC 6 News) -- A big event for handgun competitors happened in our area this year.

For the second time, the Pine Island White Pines Sportsman's Club hosted the Minnesota State Sections. It's put on by the United States Practical Shooting Association. Roughly 130 people signed up from all over the Midwest.

Both men and women and all ages above 16 years old can compete. Shooters took part in the 9 courses and 270 rounds competitions.

According to the match director Kevin Collins this kind of event fosters community and camaraderie, "This sport is a lot of fun. We have a lot of camaraderie, it's really a social event as well as a competitive event. The way the rules are set up and the division people can compete at all different skill levels."

Participants are scored based on time and accuracy. The event continues through Sunday.
