The Albuquerque Sunport was packed Thursday night with families and friends welcoming home a championship team.
Albuquerque's Eastdale softball team won the Little League Softball World Series Wednesday night bringing home New Mexico's first championship in the series since 1984.
And it got loud at the Sunport as families welcomed home the champions.
The young players of the Eastdale softball team were overwhelmed by the crowd which included the mayor.
"Now therefore I hereby proclaim august 16, 2012 as Eastdale softball world series champions day," Mayor Richard Berry proclaimed.
It all came down to Wednesday night when the girls beat a team from Florida 16-1.
"We set the bar very high, we said ESPN 2012 was our slogan" Coach Reno Sanchez said adding there were never any doubts.
But even with some impressive stats, the players said they didn't go into the world series knowing they would win - they just played their best.
"I think the coaches had more confidence in us than we did, we didn't really know where we stood with all the teams, but I guess now we know," one player said.
The 11 and 12 year old players won't have much of an off-season as Sanchez said the girls will be back on the field within a month.
