The Taste of New Mexico will take palce in downtown Albuquerque at Civic Plaza this weekend.
Food, music and fun are to be expected, and it's giving a boost to the local economy. A couple dozen restauranteers, breweries and wineries have taken over Civic Plaza downtown.
The Taste of New Mexico is calling it 'Back For Seconds.' The goal is to tap into the fiesta's success and crowds.
Assistant Director of Economic Development for Bernalillo County Vince Murphy sees a place for an event the second weekend of Balloon Fiesta.
"I'm not sure in the past that we've provided enough opportunities for people to stay in this community and enjoy," he said. "That's the intent of this."
Places like Claudia Rae's Sandwich Shop has been doing pretty well. Owner Claudia Hess has even been a two-time Souper Bowl Winner. She is hoping that by having the booth this weekend she'll be able to reach some customers who haven't had a taste. Yet.
"I'm hoping there's lots of people and it doesn't rain and we do really well," she said. "I know that my soup's are really good. My sandwiches are really good. I just need to let people know how good they are."
Besides providing food, drink and entertainment, the biggest goal of the Bernalillo County hosted event is economic development, and not just for the upcoming weekend, but for the entire year.
"What we want from this- this is economic development," Murphy said. "We're hoping that people come down and spend a little money and then find restaurants that they like and go out and eat at them on a regular basis."
