University of New Mexico football coach Bob Davie discussed his quarterback situation on 610am this morning. "If I had to guess, Cole (Gautsche) will be back, I doubt we'll have B.R. (Holbrook)," said Davie.
Holbrook suffered concussion-like symptoms Saturday at Air Force in the second quarter after his head hit the turf. He did not play in the second half against the Falcons. Gautsche missed last week because of a similiar injury against Hawaii.
"The trainers had him (Gautsche) on the field Sunday and ran him through some conditioning drills," Davie added.
"B.R. came in today and saw the trainers," said Davie on Sunday. "He had some concussion symptoms. It occurred with about 14 minutes left in the second quarter. He got sacked, similar to Cole's (Gautsche). His head went back on the turf."
Davie said Holbrook didn't let him know before halftime about the severity of the hit to the head. "At halftime he felt nausiated and a little dizzy and the doctors decided to hold him out."
Backup quarterback Quinton Mccown replaced Holbrook in the second half.
Holbrook completed 5-of-10 passes with one interception in the 28-23 loss to the Falcons.
The Lobos will host Fresno State on Saturday at 1:30pm.
