KOB Eyewitness News 4 has a long-standing commitment to covering politics in New Mexico.
That is why, as part of our Decision 2012 Election Coverage, we are giving each candidate in some of the big federal races two minutes of free airtime to explain who they are, and why you should vote for them.
Each weekday through the end of October, KOB will feature a new candidate at the 6:30 p.m. newscast.
Thursday night, we have write-in candidate for U.S. House - Jeanne Pahls.
Hi, I'm Jeanne Pahls. I've been a teacher for 30 years and I'm running as a write-in candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives Congressional District 1.
I'm running against Michelle Lujan-Grisham and Janice Arnold-Jones. I'm running for Congress because I'm a teacher and I'd like to get real support for education.
Not the shame and blame stuff, but something that's really going to help the kids. For example, smaller class sizes.
We also need Medicare for all. It's time for everyone to have access to health care. We could so easily accomplish this in the United States.
The wealthy and corporations need to pay their fair share in taxes. According to the National Center for Children and Poverty 53 percent of our New Mexican children live in poverty. Meanwhile, the Apple Corporation, rolling in profits, is hiding its profits in places like Reno, Nevada in order to avoid paying tax money that our communities need. This is just not okay. It's time to enforce regulations on banks and corporations. We all deserve and need these protections.
Also we need to work toward a peacetime economy in New Mexico and our sources of renewable energy like solar and wind should play a key role in preserving our planet for future generations.
I invite you to check out my website: PahlsforCongress.org. I'd appreciate if you'd check out my platform and see what you think, and see if it's something that you'd like to support. See what platform a teacher would run on.
I'm registered with the secretary of state as a write-in candidate. I hope you'll write my name in on the write-blank for U.S. Congress - U.S. House of Representative Congressional District 1.
Let's all do what is right for New Mexico. Thank you.
