In just a few hours KOB Eyewitness News 4 will bring you a face to face confrontation that has the potential to make a huge impact in New Mexico's race for United States Senate.

Republican Heather Wilson will face Democrat Martin Heinrich in a debate on KOB4 at 7:00 p.m. KOB.com will also live stream the event.

Wilson trails Heinrich in all the polling in this race so Thursday night is her chance for a game changing moment, but that will depend on whether Heinrich gives her an opening.

Not doing that will most likely be the 41-year-old lawmaker's priority. After that it's stick to your message, stick to your issues and stay cool.

Heinrich pretty much is a mainstream traditional democrat and that gives him an advantage in a state where democrats out-number republicans.

The 51-year-old Wilson, who held Heinrich's congressional seat for ten years, must attract a substantial slice of democratic voters and independents to win the race.

That's why she will most likely focus on red meat issues of jobs and the economy - issues that are red meat for Heinrich too.

The public will likely hear about votes cast by both candidates in the House of Representatives attempts to show that those votes are harmful to New Mexicans and attempts to explain why they're not.
