Farmington police arrested two people Wednesday for vandalizing a campaign sign in the city.

According to a spokesman, someone flagged down officers in the area of Villa View and Main Street and told them that a man and woman were damaging campaign signs.

Police found a man and woman in the area of Pinon Hills and Main who were driving a side-by-side ATV and who matched the description of the suspects.

Police questioned the two, who denied defacing any signs. Eventually, police were able to determine that they had in fact spray painted an Obama campaign sign.

They were identified as Kevin Howell, 43, and Tammy Howell, 48.

Kevin Howell was arrested for DWI and criminal damage to property and Tammy Howell was arrested for possession/consumption of alcohol.

Both subjects were booked into the San Juan County Detention Center.

Criminal charges in reference to the criminal damage to property are pending.
