Farmington police have arrested a man in connection with the city's latest homicide.

Police tell us Jacob Beach, 19, of Farmington is being held for the murder of Sharolyn Keown, 18, also of Farmington.

Keown was found dead Monday after Farmington Police were dispatched to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Court at 4715 Gila in reference to shots fired and a woman screaming.

When they arrived, they found Keown dead with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The suspect had fled the scene and was unknown.

After an extensive investigation, Beach was identified as the suspect.

Witnesses reported that Keown confronted Beach in the undeveloped lot where he was hanging out with friends.

According to witnesses, she was upset about unwanted sexual advances that Beach had made several weeks earlier.

During a verbal exchange, Keown slapped Beach and in response he produced a firearm and began shooting.

An arrest warrant was obtained, charging Beach with an open count of murder and a $500,000 cash only bond was set.

With assistance from friends and family members of both subjects, police were led to the Enchantment Motel in Aztec, where Beach was hiding. After a short negotiation, he was taken into custody without incident.

Farmington Detectives are requesting the public’s assistance in this investigation. It was reported that after leaving the scene of the shooting, Beach began disassembling the firearm used to shoot Keown.

The parts were discarded as he escaped.
