The busiest travel day of the year is well underway - and you'll want to give yourself plenty of time to park and check at the airport if you are flying.

We checked out the situation at the Albuquerque Sunport and found that - despite the crowds and longer lines -  everything seems to be moving along smoothly.

Experts tell us that about 1/3 of Americans are traveling Wednesday.

The good news is that most flights appear to be on time.

We found Michael Chavez traveling with his tiny baby girl at the Sunport today.

"This is her first flight in general so year this will be her first time, are you excited honey? Gonna go see Papa and Grammy," he said.

Another traveler, Jim Clinch, also spoke to KOB.

"We always look forward to it - we like to go at Thanksgiving because we like to be with our family our grandkids and kids here in New Mexico at Christmas time. We are surprised - the weather in Chicago is like, 60, so it'll be good."

Those we spoke to say they're actually surprised at how quickly the lines have been moving.

But again, it's better to be safe than sorry, and get here early.
