What started out as a disturbance call at a Central Avenue motel ended with a man shooting and killing himself in his car, according to Albuquerque Police.
Police got a call at around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday about a man with a gun at the Premier Motel on Central and Solano. Police said the man was arguing with someone. KOB Eyewitness News 4 saw what appeared to be a bullet hole in a car and a motel room taped off. According to police, no one at the motel was shot.
Police said the man then took off in a blue car. The APD helicopter spotted it and officers ended up with the man at Central and San Mateo.
Police said officers saw the man point a gun to his head while driving. A woman at the scene said she saw police pull out their guns and told the man to stop. She said the man turned onto San Mateo and a police car bumped the man's car to stop it. "Spun him around and that's how he landed on the median. And everybody started running over to see what was going on and I just heard a pop. And when I turned I saw his windshield was shattered," the witness said.
An APD spokesman said officers saw the man shoot himself in the head. Police said officers did not fire their weapons in the incident. The man's name has not been released.
