Police in Alamogordo say they will increase their presence on school campuses Friday after learning about rumors posted on a social website regarding a planned shooting Friday at Alamogordo Senior High.
Alamogordo police say they have interviewed a number of people about the rumors and have found them to be not credible.
Despite that, the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety, the Otero County Sheriffs Office and the New Mexico State Police will be increasing their presence on the Alamogordo Public School District’s Campuses within Otero County on Friday.
According to a release from Alamogordo police, this decision came after a discussion with various area police and the school district about the social media posts and the recent school shooting last Friday in Newtown, Connecticut.
Police say they are asking for the public’s "understanding and support during this time of concern."
