If you are headed to the Sunport just after Christmas, you won't be able to use the long-term parking lot.
That lot at the Albuquerque Sunport will be closed beginning Dec. 26 for a reconstruction project that will begin on Jan. 14.
According to a news release Friday from the Sunport, the lot is closing early to give it time to empty out before the project begins.
The reconstruction is expected to last approximately five months and will include repaving of the entire lot and the addition of solar panels that will also serve as shade canopies.
Sunport officials say the time set aside for this project is traditionally the slowest for travel because it falls in between the holidays and summer travel season.
Alternate parking, at the same daily rate, will be available in the long-term credit/debit card lot located off Girard, just to the east of the terminal.
That long-term lot accepts only credit or debit cards and does not have an attendant on duty, but there is a call button at the exit to speak with an attendant who can handle exceptions or problems.
Enterprise Builders is the contractor for the approximately $5 million project, with $3.3 million coming from an FAA grant for the solar portion of the project.
