The San Juan County Sheriff has identified a pedestrian killed Sunday on U.S. 550.
Nathan Sylvester, 28, of Bloomfield, died after being hit by a car driven by Todd Begay, 35, of Aztec.
Begay told police that he was driving south when something stumbled into his lane in the dark.
Begay was not sure what he hit, but immediately turned back to check and saw it was a person. Begay called 911 and began CPR.
Emergency crews arrived and pronounced Sylvester dead at the scene.
No foul play is suspected and Begay is not believed to have been impaired.
Several cans of alcohol – some empty and some unopened – were found on Sylvester. His toxicology report is pending.
