It’s the talk of the day for a lot of people around town. The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team pulled off a win against the Cincinnati Bearcats Thursday night.
A last-second block sealed the deal for a big upset at #8 Cincinnati.
Unranked New Mexico stunned the homecrowd and fired up Lobo fans.
Victory on the hardwood is also ringing up a win for merchandise shops like ‘New Mexico Look’ on Menaul.
"That was so exciting. I was nervous the whole game. One of my friends said she felt like she played every minute of it. She was exhausted," said Class of 1986 alumna Linda Davis.
As the Lobos are on a red-hot streak, fans and people jumping on the bandwagon are running to get their hands on any Lobo merchandise they can.
"I just wanted to pick up some swag before I go back," said Tucson resident Paul Valles. "Rub it in the wildcat fans."
New Mexico Look says they’ve stayed busy all year long.
"When the Lobos are down, business is down. I'm not going to lie,” said Luis Trujillo of New Mexico Look. “But now the Lobos are playing well. The football team had a better team this year that helped us out. Now the basketball team is rolling along and we're happy. We're real happy."
"I think they're going to make it all the way this year," said Valles.
Even a Kentucky fan is on board.
"I think we're the best team in the country," said Aaron Clark, who grew up in New Mexico. "Duke or Indiana we can definitely beat."
Others don’t want to jinx a red-hot season with a tournament prediction just yet.
