This week not one player received enough votes to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. I’d like to get on my soapbox and scream about how the Hall of Fame voting is ridiculous. I’m not going to take this space and make a case for Craig Biggio or Jack Morris or Fred McGriff, instead I’ll just tell you that they need to come up with a new system of voting.
I’m amazed every year at how some of these voters say “Well, he’s not a first ballot Hall of Famer.” These players are retired! Their stats don’t change! Either you think he’s a Hall of Famer or he’s not. I don’t understand how one year a player doesn’t receive enough votes to get in, but years later he gets the required numbers. What changed? Nothing. The only thing that SHOULD change is the way they elect these guys.
The process has become more about the writers (and who they “allow” in) rather than who actually deserves to get in.
