District Judge and former District Attorney Robert Schwartz died from complications of a broken leg – with chronic alcoholism and obstructive pulmonary disease from years of smoking playing contributing roles.
Schwartz, 62, died in November during a hospital stay.
The Office of the Medical Investigator released an autopsy report Thursday that said Schwartz’s manner of death was an accident stemming from fall more than two weeks earlier.
According to the report’s narrative, Schwartz fell at home, in his yard, on October 26th.
He was taken to a local hospital where a diagnosis of a fracture of the right femur was made.
At the hospital, his right hip was repaired and postoperatively, he developed alcoholic withdrawal symptoms with delirium tremens.
In addition, he developed deep vein thrombosis of his lower legs.
At one point, he had a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated, but remained comatose.
He died 16 days following the injury.
Based on the appearance of his body, his medical records, and the circumstances of the injury, Schwartz's death was certified to be due to complications of fracture of the right femur with chronic alcoholism and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as contributing factors.
