Gov. Susana Martinez has declared a state of emergency in New Mexico due to a propane shortage across the Southwest.

The shortage is due to a spike in demand for propane during freezing weather conditions throughout the region.

The governor's executive order suspends regulations on the number of hours that propane suppliers may drive in order to expedite the delivery of liquid petroleum gas into and across the state.

In 2011, Governor Martinez issued a similar executive order during the natural gas outage that left more than 30,000 New Mexicans without heat.
