A mother is desperate to help her son with his mental health issues after police arrested him for threatening his parents with a knife.
A judge arraigned Samuel Vigil for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Saturday.
It happened Thursday night when the Vigils said their son started yelling, even saying "kill him, John."
But, the mother said there was no John inside the home.
According to the criminal complaint, Samuel Vigil then went to the kitchen, picked up a knife and started swinging.
The father got the knife away and told his wife to call police.
When they arrived, the parents came outside. Police called out Samuel Vigil and he came outside with his hands up, but officers said he then started to back up into the home.
Police tased Vigil after his parents gave permission. Officers said Vigil could have barricaded himself inside the home and caused a SWAT situation.
Margaret Vigil told Judge Daniel Ramczyk her son has autism and schizophrenia.
"He has completely changed as far as his capabilities, his memories, and I felt like it wasn't even my son that was angry. It's like he's been fighting demons," Margaret Vigil said.
The judge said he would not let her son out of jail unless the family found some mental health help for Samuel.
"What I find is that the allegations in this complaint are disturbing. You or your husband could have been injured. Your son might have been injured or killed," Ramczyk said.
The mother asked the court to scan her son's brain for more mental health issues, but Ramczyk said that is her responsibility.
