This week in Albuquerque, volunteers are canvassing the city conducting surveys with homeless people as part of the Albuquerque Heading Home Initiative.
The questions include concepts such as whether someone is chronically or temporarily homeless, whether they have health problems or use drugs, and whether they encounter violence.
This information is factored in as part of a vulnerability index; it determines how dangerous the people's lives are, and finds way to provide some of them with healthcare or housing.
The Albuquerque Heading Home Initiative was started in 2011 with the goal of making sure no one in Albuquerque dies on the streets.
