A Rio Rancho Public Schools teacher has been arrested following an alleged incident with a student earlier this week.

According to an affidavit for arrest, the parent of a Rio Rancho Middle School student  alleges her son was battered at the middle school by his teacher, Ken Boyd.

The affidavit states - citing interview with Middle School Principal Lynda Kitts  - on Jan. 31 Boyd came into her office stating he was not cut out for the job and that he had told a child to "shut up and sit down."

Minutes later, the mother of a middle school student told the school her son called her crying accusing his teacher, Boyd, of choking him and locking him in a classroom.

Kitts told police she found the student in an unlocked classroom, the affidavit states.

The affidavit states the student alleges his teacher grabbed his sweatshirt collar with one hand, pushed him backwards towards a table and told him to "shut up and sit down you idiot." The student then alleged Boyd, in front of other students, said, "look he is crying, who is not a big boy now?" The student accused Boyd of then dismissing the class, except for him, and locking him in the computer lab alone.

Another student, alleges he was similarly battered by Boyd, according to the affidavit.  That student alleges Boyd grabbed him by the arm and physically pulled him to the corner of a classroom, at which point Boyd then grabbed the student by the back of his neck forcing him nearly to the ground causing the student to hit his head on a nearby table.

According to the affidavit, witnesses corroborated the students' statements and that several students stayed home Feb. 1 because they were frightened by the incident.

Boyd had been with the school district since October of last year, according to school offiicals.
