After several recent reports of teachers accused of getting rough with students, the American Federation of Teachers in New Mexico and parents are reacting.
Stephanie Ly, the President of the American Federation of Teachers in New Mexico, says it is time to start looking at ways to train teachers on how to deal with students, and get more support in schools for students like counselors and social workers.
"This is really a cry for an opportunity for us to work together to provide the professional development for staff and also the support that students need," Ly said.
Ly says they are working on legislation this session that has parts dedicated to student safety.
