LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State University senior forward Tyrone Watson is appealing his suspension from the basketball team.
KTSM-TV reports that Watson will appear before Tuesday afternoon before a committee, which will make a recommendation to university Athletic Director Dr. McKinley Boston.
The 22-year-old Watson will either be fully reinstated conditionally reinstated or the suspension will be upheld.
Las Cruces police announced last Wednesday that Watson was charged with a third-degree felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Police say Watson allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old man, who was treated for facial fractures, a gash requiring 13 stitches and other cuts and bruises after the brawl at a party last month.
Witnesses say Watson grabbed the man and punched him in the face because he was dancing with Watson's girlfriend.
