The state Senate approved a measure extending Sunday alcohol sales.
The proposal, which passed 34 to 6 Friday, would allow the state's restaurants and taverns to serve alcohol on Sundays beginning at 10 a.m.
Businesses currently aren’t allowed to start serving alcohol on Sundays until 12 p.m.
Lawmakers hail the proposal as a way to help New Mexico businesses, like sports bars, compete with neighboring states’ liquor establishments.
The plan now heads to the state House of Representatives for vetting.
