SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Two visiting police chiefs to New Mexico's capital received personal experience with the city's property crime problem: their vehicles were burglarized.
Police say the unmarked police vehicles of Gallup Chief Robert Cron and Tucumcari Chief Jason Braziel were broken into at a Santa Fe hotel this week.
Santa Fe police Capt. Aric Wheeler says the bandit escaped with bullet-proof vest, a set of handcuffs and a black ski mask.
Santa Fe Police Chief Raymond Rael says the chiefs' vehicles apparently were the only two in the vicinity that were burglarized.
No arrests have been made. Santa Fe's home burglary statistics, long among the worst in the country, saw a decrease in the second half of 2012.
Car burglaries were down a bit for the year.
