Santa Fe police say an Espanola man was killed late Wednesday night while walking on NM 14 north of its intersection with NM 599.
The man was Cipriano Archuleta, 69.
According to police, Archuleta was hit at around 11 p.m. by a person driving a red Chevy pickup truck.
The driver of the truck called 911 and later told police Archuleta was in the road when he hit him.
The driver told police he braked but was unable to avoid him.
According to police, the driver remained on the scene and used his truck to block the southbound lane of NM 14 as a way of protecting the struck pedestrian until police arrived.
NM 14 was closed to traffic for about three hours as police investigated.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office traffic accident/fatality team is investigating the accident.
As of now no charges have been filed and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
