New Mexico State Police have identified a man who was shot by Santa Fe police while caring for someone’s home.
He is Robert “Bobby” Dominguez, 77.
Police stated Monday an alarm went off at a home on the 500 block of Johnson Lane around 3:15 a.m.
When the Santa Fe Police officer arrived, he saw a man with a gun inside the residence and fired at him.
NMSP have identified the officer who was involved as Charles Laramie. Laramie has been with the Santa Fe Police Department for around nine months.
Neighbors told KOB Eyewitness News 4 the man shot was not an intruder - he was the caretaker of the home.
The homeowners live in Santa Fe part time and while they are away, they hire a caretaker to watch over the home.
“The alarm went off, he heard the alarm and knew it was one of the houses he takes care of and decided to go in and investigate,” said Joe Nero.
Neighbors describe Dominguez as an older man who had earned the trust of those who live in the neighborhood.
“I know as him a very nice personable quiet guy. If he sees you he wants to stop and talk for a little while,” Nero said. “He takes care of 3 or 4 of the homes in the neighborhood.”
