The Lobos are one of the 68 teams heading to the NCAA tournament.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 was there Sunday night when the team learned they are a three seed in the West Region. That means they’re set to play 14 seed Harvard on Thursday night in Salt Lake City.
As some Lobo fans get ready to head to Salt Lake City to cheer on the Lobos, some students we spoke to aren’t so lucky.
So what’s stopping some students from making the trip to Salt Lake City?
“I wish I had more money to go,” said Kel Koro.
“Work,” said Renee Gallegos.
“If I had a chance to miss class, I would for sure go,” said Cody Williams.
Patrick Walton is one of the lucky ones. He’s on the cheer team, which means his trip to Utah is already booked. “Anytime you can cheer on the team and be up close and personal with them you feel like you’re a part of it and that’s what it’s about. That’s Lobo pride right there,” Walton said.
But for others, midterms, homework and projects are why they can’t go. “I would love to go. I mean, we probably have the best shot to make it to the sweet 16 this year I would think. I mean if we don’t I would be a little disappointment,” added Williams.
Koro said he loves the Lobos but money is an issue.
As for flights, the cheapest we found were $225 one way.
“They’ll probably have a lot of fans out there regardless,” said Williams.
