CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say agents with the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force have fatally shot a wanted man at a Carlsbad motel.

New Mexico State Police say task force agents on Monday were trying to locate 35-year-old Wesley Davis, who had an outstanding felony narcotics warrant.

After arriving at the motel, agents say they saw Davis exiting a room.

As they were trying to arrest Davis, an altercation ensued and shots were fired by agents. They say Davis was struck two times.

Davis was transported to the Carlsbad Medical Center, where he died.

His body was transported to the medical examiner in Albuquerque for an autopsy.

State police say they're investigating the shooting of Davis, who was an Artesia resident.
