Gov. Susana Martinez appointed John Duran of Albuquerque to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Thursday.

Duran will be filling a vacancy created when Chief Judge Judith Nakamura was appointed to the 2nd Judicial District Court earlier this year.

Duran has served as an assistant district attorney in the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Albuquerque for the past 10 years, according to a press release.

The release states Duran earned his law degree and a Bachelor of Arts in English and American History from the University of New Mexico. He also serves as an adjunct professor for the Criminal Law in Practice course at the UNM School of Law.
