CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - Douglas County sheriff's officials say a man who flew from New Mexico to Colorado to visit his girlfriend died when his single-engine plane crashed in a cow pasture south of Denver.

Douglas County sheriff's spokeswoman Deborah Sherman says a rancher on Sunday found the wreckage of the 1973 fixed-wing Cherokee Piper in a pasture near Castlewood Canyon State Park in Franktown, Colo.

Sherman says the plane took off from Sandia Airpark in Edgewood, N.M. on Saturday.

Later the evening, a woman called Douglas County authorities to report the sound of a stalling plane overhead.

Federal transportation officials say the pilot's girlfriend also reported him missing and the plane as overdue.

The name of the pilot has not been released. The plane's registered owner is from Texas.
