Police search for man who allegedly dragged Roswell police officer Friday

Roswell police are looking for a man who dragged a Roswell police officer with his vehicle early Friday.

A multijurisdictional team made up of New Mexico State Police, Chaves County Sheriff’s Office and Roswell Police is searching for Carlos Vale Jr., a person of interest in the case.

The incident happened at 5 a.m. Friday as Officer Nathan Hempton was conducting a traffic stop at the junction of North Union and West 8th Streets.

During the incident, Officer Hempton was dragged by a motor vehicle.

He discharged his firearm during the incident. As per City of Roswell Police Department policy, Officer Hempton was placed on administrative leave.
