The father of an 11-year old boy who went missing after being suspended from Jimmy Carter Middle School says the boy has been found safe.

Jeremy Baca says his son Jeremiah Baca was found Wednesday morning with his grandparents in Socorro. According to Baca, Socorro Police and the New Mexico Department of CYFD are now involved.

Baca told KOB he has full custody of the boy and is headed to Socorro to pick up his son.

According to APS, Jeremiah Baca and five other students at Jimmy Carter Middle School were suspended Monday for smoking marijuana.

As of Tuesday morning, officials didn’t know where Baca was or whether the administrators followed policy when allowing Baca to walk off campus.

"The administration is required to make contact with the parent or guardian to make sure they've been informed that the student has in fact been suspended," APS spokeswoman Monica Armenta told KOB.

The principal and dean of students at Jimmy Carter were put on paid administrative leave because of the policy violation, APS said.
