Bullying is a big problem to tackle in New Mexico and nationwide, but New Mexico Stars players hope to help kids field kick it out of their schools.
Players from the team will be at Puesta del Sol Elementary in Rio Rancho at 1 in the afternoon on Friday to give kids a hands-on presentation about why bullying hurts and how they can help stop it.
In middle schools, for example, kids who reported being bullied spiked more than 10 percent between 2009 and 2011.
The state has been taking action.
The Public Education Department required schools to implement a prevention program by the 2012 school year.
Many prevention programs work off a student-based model, trying to get kids to help each other.
