The East Mountain Interagency Fire Protection Association says a Red Flag Warning will be in effect Friday afternoon in mountain communities around Albuquerque.

The Red Flag Warning is a short term, temporary warning indicating the presence of dangerous combinations of temperature, wind, relative humidity, fuel or drought conditions which can contribute to new fires or rapid spread of existing fires.

During the Red Flag warning, no campfires, welding or outside smoking is allowed.

The interagency fire association is composed of all jurisdictional agencies that respond to fire and emergencies in the mountain communities.

During Red Flag warnings, they heighten their communication and response-preparation efforts.
