When Steve Alford announced he was leaving for UCLA, it took Alex Kirk less than an hour to announce he would consider transferring from UNM.
Fast forward to Monday. Kirk's candidate for the head coach job (Craig Neal) landed the position and Kirk is working out with the team. He hasn't said so publicly, but it looks like Alex Kirk will return to UNM.
Consider these facts:
1) Kirk, up to this point, has not asked for a transfer.
2) The recruiting period opens on Thursday. Even if he chose not to let his own team know until the last minute, you would think he would let any possible future school (UCLA, for example) know that he would be joining them before they go on the road recruiting.
3) Kirk was shooting around with the team on Monday.
4) At Tony Snell's press conference to announce his intentions to enter the NBA draft, new UNM head coach Craig Neal told us on Monday "We got everyone coming back besides Tony." When we asked Neal if that mean Kirk would be returning, Neal told us, "This is about Tony, this isn't about anyone else on our team."
My interpretation: Kirk will be back.
