LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - The New Mexico State University regents on Tuesday are scheduled to announce finalists for the university's next president.
A search committee of faculty, staff, a student and community members reviewed applications and conducted initial interviews.
The finalists will visit the university later this month for interviews, and the regents are expected to select the new president by early May. The NMSU regents removed Barbara Couture as president last fall after fewer than three years at the university's helm.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that former New Mexico Gov. Garrey Carruthers was among the initial candidates.
Carruthers has been dean of the university's business college since 2003. He was governor from 1987 to 1990.
