An Albuquerque teen thinks she has what it takes to win “The Voice”, and the judges on the NBC show agree.
Mary Miranda wowed them Monday night on the show, which aired here on KOB. Based on judge Shakira’s reaction, Mary had them from the first note.
Mary sang Selena’s hit “Como La Flor”. Her friends were watching in Albuquerque.
“I'm so excited to see her actually come alive on NBC. Her voice is so beautiful and it comes from within ‘cause her soul is so beautiful you can just hear it come through her voice. It’s something she deserves and she's worked so hard for that, I'm so proud of her,” friend Aubrey Burns said.
In the end, Mary’s choice for her coach was simple. She chose Shakira.
And now, for Mary, the hard work starts.
“I'm not trying to be cocky, but I think I have what it takes to be in this competition. I'm going to give the best I have,” Miranda said.
be cocky but I think I have what it takes to be in this competition....I'm going to give the best I have.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 spoke to Mary on the phone after her big night and she had some words for Albuquerque.
“I just want to thank my family and friends because they're supporting me 24/7 and I really appreciate everything they do for me,” she said.
Mary was born in Cuba and moved to Albuquerque four years ago. She was a student at both Cibola and Sandia high schools.
Miranda is the second member of “Team Shakira” with New Mexico ties. Tawnya Reynolds was chosen to be on “Team Shakira” a few weeks ago. Reynolds grew up in the Ruidoso area.
“The Voice” airs Tuesday night at 7 here on KOB.
