Members of the University of New Mexico community stayed up all night walking to raise money for cancer research during the Relay for Life event on Friday.
Luminarias were set up along the walking path to honor people who had died of cancer.
“I don't really do relay for me, I do it for my grandpa who passed away two years ago, but it just means celebrating his life and my friends life,” 13-year-old cancer survivor Mariah Galvez said.
Music, games and a 3 a.m. Zumba exercise helped walkers stay awake for the event that lasted until 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
“Hopefully we can destroy this horrible disease, cancer , and bring more smiles to this world,” Tito Estrada said.
